This creamy pumpkin pie smoothie recipe is like pumpkin pie in drinkable form. Pure pumpkin puree is combined with banana, warming spices and a touch of maple syrup to create a silky smooth texture and incredible taste. This pumpkin smoothie is sure to be a fall favourite!
Who’s excited about fall? I know I am!
All the pumpkin! All the maple syrup! Bring on the cinnamon-infused drinks, maple syrup drizzled cakes and cookies for me!
Okay, you can probably tell I love fall. Favourite season hands down.
I recently made delicious pumpkin muffins and opened up one of those huge cans of pumpkin puree. I had some leftover and wanted to make good use of it.
Being a huge fan of smoothies, I thought how could I use this puree in smoothie form. Then I started thinking about the flavours that go with pumpkin. Classic combos of cinnamon and nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice came to mind. Boom! Pumpkin pie smoothie! Winner winner smoothie dinner or, um, something like that.
This pumpkin pie smoothie tastes like a treat, a drinkable dessert or dessert smoothie, and we regularly enjoy it during the fall season.
By the way, these pumpkin pie bites go great with this pumpkin smoothie!
Why We Love This Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
- It’s a great way to use leftover pumpkin puree (yay for reducing food waste).
- Like most smoothies, it comes together in minutes.
- It’s such a fun way to enjoy a seasonal favourite at home.
- Of course, it tastes delicious!
What Is Pumpkin Puree?
Pumpkin puree is exactly what it sounds like โฆ pureed pumpkin. Nothing else.
The funny thing is that pumpkin puree in and of itself doesn’t have a lot of strong flavours.
What pumpkin puree does have, however, is a lovely silky, creamy texture. When you mix warming spices with it, now you’re onto something.
Don’t confuse pumpkin puree with pumpkin pie filling. Pumpkin pie filling has other additives, like spices and sweeteners. Use pure pumpkin puree in this smoothie recipe.
Tips and Variations
- Ensure you use a frozen banana. It helps create a silky smooth texture.
- Only two tablespoons of maple syrup were used for the two generous smoothies. Feel free to add more (or less) to taste.
- If you don’t need this pumpkin pie smoothie to be vegan, try honey.
- Oat milk was used here, but almond, soy or dairy are great alternatives (if you don’t need this to be a vegan pumpkin smoothie).

Every year I subject my English in-laws to pumpkin pie, to little avail. They just don’t get it. So, maybe I will have to get them to try this instead! I must say I was worried at first it was going to be one of those monster shakes type of things, but I’m happy I read on. I cannot wait to try this, bring on the fall!
Girl Heart Food
But pumpkin pie is just so great ๐ I know I’ve tried certain foods and have not liked, tried again a while later and loved so ya never know…perhaps they will grow to like it one day!
Thanks so much for stopping by, Matt! Hope you get a chance to try the smoothie soon ๐
David @ Spiced
Oh no! I’m really glad you aren’t allergic to wine. That would have been tragic! But then again, I hope you aren’t allergic to cookies either…that would be (almost) equally tragic. Hopefully it was just a one-time random thing. And yes, I am SO glad that Fall is almost here. I love everything about Fall…starting with all of the flavors. And this smoothie has everything in it that I love! Maple…pumpkin…real nutmeg. Oh, you are a’talking my language with this one, Dawn! ๐
Girl Heart Food
It totally would have been tragic! I can’t even imagine. I mean, I wouldn’t want to be allergic to cookies, but wine? Can’t even think about it! I’m going to assume it was a one-off thing and not going to happen again…positive thinking, right? Happy you like the recipe, David, and get a chance to try it soon. Yay for pumpkin season! Woot woot! Have a great weekend!
Nicole @ Young, Broke and Hungry
Oh man! Allergies are the weirdest and sometimes pop out of nowhere, but fingers crossed it wasn’t the wine because that would be devastating… ๐
This pumpkin pie smoothie looks amazing and makes me wish fall was even closer.
Girl Heart Food
If it was the wine, it totally would be devastating…agreed ๐
Thanks so much, Nicole! Yay for Fall drinks ๐
Rachelle @ Beer Girl Cooks
Yikes! I’m glad you are ok and I certainly hope it wasn’t the wine because that would be tragic! I’m not quite read for fall, but when I am I’m sure going to make some of these pumpkin pie smoothies! Pinned!
Girl Heart Food
I am…thank goodness. Geeez, I hope it wasn’t the wine either!! Can’t even go there ๐
Thanks so much, Rachelle! Have a great week ๐

Allergies are a strange thing – especially when we develop them later in life, but surely it could not have been the wine! Never! That is just not a medical possibility ๐ I am all for drinkable desserts. I have only discovered pumpkin puree in a Whole Foods Market last year. Supermarkets here in London don’t seem to have it yet so I am glad to know where to get it from. I don’t think I am ready for fall just yet – probably because we did not have much of a summer in London but when the time comes I am sure I will be ready with a Pumpkin Pie Smoothie in hand ๐
Girl Heart Food
I know! I don’t know the reasoning for developing allergies later in life. Hopefully, for me, it was a one-off thing and won’t happen again…fingers crossed! Normally in Newfoundland our Summers are not always super great and it certainly didn’t start out that way this year, but the past few weeks have been fantastic! I do love Summer, but Fall is my fave….I just don’t like the cold weather and snow that follows. Glad you found where you can get the pumpkin puree and get a chance to try this smoothie. I’m sure you’ll like it ๐ Thanks so much, Miriam!

wine and cookies and allergic reaction??! no way. clearly it was that salad from lunch right? argh. i have developed an allergic reaction to certain nuts in recent years. it is not pretty and it is not fun. especially since i love nuts! it’s no fun when life doesn’t comply with our wishes. i hope for you it was a one time thing! unlike this pumpkin smoothie! i am all things pumpkin pie. so when you’re telling me i can drink it for breakfast you just won my heart! can’t wait to try!
Girl Heart Food
Yes, yes, it was that salad from lunch ๐ Oh no! Allergy to nuts? That’s too bad! Yes, this pumpkin pie smoothie is totally acceptable for breakfast! Why not, right? There’s lot of good things in there after all! Thanks so much, Cathy! Have a fantastic week ๐
karrie @ Tasty Ever After
It was probably the wine so you should pack it all up and ship it down to me. I’ll text you my FedEx number tomorrow ๐ Allergicric reactions are no fun so glad all is okay now. Loving this smoothie and all the pumpkin and spices in it. Can’t believe pumpkin recipes are upon us. I haven’t even finished my ice cream recipes and now everyone is moving on to pumpkin! I need to get with the program ๐
Girl Heart Food
Don’t dare say that, lol. I can’t even imagine, Karrie. OMG! But, I’d definitely share with ya, girl! I can’t believe I posted a ‘Fall’ recipe…maybe I’m a little early, couldn’t wait. Oh well. Ice-cream? Now, you’re talking! Even better, wine plus ice-cream? Oh, and some potato chips. Now, I’m hungry ๐ Thanks sweets! xo

Drinkable pumpkin pie! Wow, thatโs a great thought and might I tell you a secret. Well not secret per se, but I was not a pumpkin fan until 2 years ago. Crazy right? There, now you know. You cracked me up with Gollum and โthe preciousโ bit, too funny!
I will be holding on to summer for at least another month, as long as I can, or at least before I can post all my already photographed Summery recipes! ๐
This look super tasty and the chocolate shavings on top sold me.
Girl Heart Food
It is crazy, but I can totally understand. This, coming from someone who didn’t like avocado or cilantro and now I’m in love with both! I guess our tastes, change, hey? Haha…glad you got a little chuckle with the Gollum joke ๐ I was even laughing to myself when I was writing it! I don’t blame ya for holding onto Summer, but I’m still excited for Fall! In the meantime, please send some figs! Please & thank-you! Thanks Kevin!
Kathryn @ Family Food on the Table
Fall in drink form – yes please!! I love all the pumpkin things all year long. My kids eat homemade pumpkin muffins on a weekly basis, so we’re always in the pumpkin. This is gonna be a great way to use up some of our extra!
But also, I hope you are not allergic to wine! BAH! Probably it was a weird bug or combo of things. I know my husband has had a reaction like that when we were at a wedding and I think it was the alcohol + sugar, or something. Anyway, I’m sure you are A-OK. (Fingers and toes crossed!)
Girl Heart Food
I can totally eat pumpkin all year long too, Kathryn! Send me some of those muffins, please ๐ I hope I’m not allergic to wine, either! That would be crazy, right? I can’t even imagine, lol. Perhaps, that’s what it was, just a combination or maybe a one-off thing. Thanks so much, girl! xo
Jolina - The Unlikely Baker
YES IT WAS DINNER. There is NO WAY it was the wine! Phew. Glad you’re OK! Though I can seriously vividly imagine your Matrix-slow-mo sequence haha. You are too funny. And this smoothie is fall in a glass! I’m in denial that summer is ending so we’re not doing any fall-sy things yet but we’ll definitely grab some pumpkins when the time comes. Have a wonderful week!
Girl Heart Food
YES, it was! Agreed and high five! I know, right? Matrix all the way, lol!! I love Summer, but Fall is so awesome too. That nice, crisp breeze is the best! And those Fall scented candles…love! Have a wonderful week too, Jolina!
Demeter | Beaming Baker
Dawn!! I’ve totally been working on a pumpkin pie smoothie too! Lolol. <– Here's me, totally being behind everyone else on the pumpkin recipes! Meanwhile, that allergic reaction sounds scary!! I'm so glad that you're okay, D. Sheesh! I would have been beside myself if I saw you faint. I hope you find out what it was that caused the reaction. Meanwhile, this smoothie looks so yummy and delish!! Plus, I'm always on board for a winner winner smoothie dinner! ๐ Pinning, of course. Have a great week, my dear! xoxo
Girl Heart Food
Hahaha! So funny! I’m sure you’re version will be fabulous!! While my chest got super red and super itchy, I didn’t actually faint; I was being dramatic because of the ‘could it be the wine’ thing, lol. Thank you very much, Demeter, for your concern! You’re too sweet. And thanks for the Pin! Have a great week too, my friend. xoxo
[email protected]
Awhhh! Thankfully that didn’t last long…that is no fun at all and can be quite scary! Soooo – you are right on, girlfriend….I will love this as much as you do! I really am adoring all the fall recipes making their way onto the scene! This is no exception! YUMMMM!
Girl Heart Food
With Fall comes along some great food, doesn’t it? Lots of comfort food dishes, which I absolutely love! Thanks so much, Annie!
Megan - The Emotional Baker
How scary! I’m glad you’re ok! I’ve never fainted or had any extreme allergic reactions. I’m sure it wasn’t the cookie ๐
On to this smoothie- I’ve been trying to perfect my pumpkin pie smoothie, but haven’t had success yet. I can’t wait to try your version!!
Girl Heart Food
Thank you Megan! I didn’t actually faint, thank goodness, I was just being dramatic, lol. But my chest did break out and was very very itchy and red. Hopefully, it won’t happen again!
Hope you get a chance to try this smoothie soon! It’s delish ๐ Have a great week!
Mary Ann | The Beach House Kitchen
Oh no Dawn!! I’m sure it wasn’t the wine! That just wouldn’t be right!
Ok so, this smoothie! Yes, winner, winner smoothie dinner! Ha! (We’re both using that line today.) I love the flavors in this smoothie! If it wasn’t 90 degrees here today, I could totally imagine myself drinking it while admiring all the gorgeous fall leaves blowing by! Putting it on my list! Have an awesome week my friend!
Girl Heart Food
That line is just great, isn’t it? So many applications, right? Thanks so much, Mary Ann! Hope you get a chance to try the smoothie soon! Have an awesome week too! Cheers ๐
Cheyanne @ No Spoon Necessary
Oh mah gaaaa! I’m so sorry you had an allergic reaction, but I’m 99.974% sure it wasn’t the wine — I mean how COULD IT BE?! Wine would never do that to you! It loves you too much! hahahaha. I’m glad you are okay! Anyways, gurl I am with you I LOVE fall I just hate the colors of fall food… Orange, brown, yellow. BLAH. So not inspiring. While they taste fab, the colors are just so drab. <– 10 points for rhyming! Anyways, I love that you mixed this pumpkin pie smoothie with bananas! Now this is a pumpkin flavored drink I could get behind!! Gimme! Cheers, sweets!
Girl Heart Food
Right, it couldn’t have been the wine….we, like bffs, lol. I hear ya about the colours of the food, but everything else just rocks my boat! Then again, we do have dogberries around here that grow in the Fall and they are a beautiful bright red/orange colour. Thanks so much, Cheyanne! Have a wonderful week, my friend ๐
Gayle @ Pumpkin 'N Spice
Oh no! I wonder what the reaction was caused from! Hopefully not the wine! I’m lucky that I don’t have any allergies that I know of, and I hope it stays that way. I feel bad for those who are allergic to the foods that I take for granted.
And HOORAY for pumpkin season! We’re fall twins today! I am so excited for fall and cooler weather, but not for what comes after that (winter) haha. This smoothie looks SO good, Dawn! I’ve never made a pumpkin pie smoothie before, so this sounds perfect. I love the frozen banana in here to give it a touch of creaminess. Pinned and can’t wait to try out! Hope your Monday is off to a great start!
Girl Heart Food
I have no idea! And, I agree..hopefully not the wine ๐ Maybe it was just a one-off thing.
YES, pumpkin season is the best! Love it! Fall twins for the win ๐ Thanks so much, Gayle for the kind words and Pin.
Have a fantastic week!
