Made with only five simple ingredients, this blackberry smoothie with coconut is not only a pretty hue but is incredibly creamy and delicious! This frozen berry smoothie makes for a great start to your day or can be enjoyed as a mid-afternoon snack.
Hi friends!
As you’ve probably heard me say before, hubby and I love smoothies and always enjoying trying all sorts of delicious combos. One of our faves is this chocolate peanut butter smoothie.
Like pretty much all smoothies, there’s nothing complicated here.
Throw your ingredients in a blender, whiz up and you are good to go.
Plus, you know what’s in there — no syrups, no weird ingredients, just pure natural goodness. Also, it’s so much cheaper than any smoothie that you are going to buy in a store.
My local coffee shop sells a small smoothie for $5! What? I could make a smoothie at home for a fraction of that price and no line-ups. Score! Plus, you can totally stay home in your comfy clothes!
Why We Love This Blackberry Smoothie Recipe
- It’s made with just 5 ingredients.
- The recipe uses frozen berries (which are pretty much always readily available).
- Like most smoothies, it takes minutes to whip up (so it’s great for a quick breakfast or snack).
- With blackberry and coconut, it tastes delicious!
Can I Use Another Type of Milk?
Absolutely!
If you don’t need this blackberry smoothie to be vegan, you can use regular dairy milk.
Alternatively, oat or soy milk are other (non dairy) options.
Smoothie Toppers
If you want to add extra texture and flavour to your smoothie, any of these toppings work great:
- Frozen or fresh blackberries
- Shredded coconut
- Chia seeds
- Protein powder (mix in when you are blending for extra oomph)
- Flax seeds or meal
Tips and Variations
- Use frozen blackberries! The frozen berries give the smoothie lushness that you wouldn’t get by using fresh.
- This recipe yields two blackberry smoothies, but you can easily half (or double) depending on how many you need.
- If you don’t need this fruit smoothie to be vegan, you can use Greek or Skyr yogurt instead.
- For a different sweetener, you can use honey instead of maple syrup (this would make the smoothie vegetarian, not vegan). Alternatively, you can omit the sweetener, if you like.

It is indeed crazy how much restaurants/coffee shops charge for smoothies. I mean fruit isn’t cheap, but still…it’s SO much cheaper to make these at home. I love (!!!) blackberries, so of course this one is calling my name. This looks amazing, Dawn! Perfect for summer!
Dawn - Girl Heart Food
Right??! Thanks David!
Kathy @ Beyond the Chicken Coop
I’ve got a ton of blackberries in my freezer to use up from last year’s harvest. This would be a perfect snack on a hot afternoon! Refreshing, healthy and delicious!
Dawn - Girl Heart Food
Lucky you…and definitely! Thanks Kathy!
Sarah @ Champagne Tastes
This is so pretty!!! I’m so glad it’s smoothie weather again! What kind of blender did you buy? I’m always on the prowl for one I like better- I haven’t been able to talk myself into buying a Vitamix or Blendtec because our place is just TOO SMALL for those big things! But I keep looking at them anyway Lol!
Girl Heart Food
Thanks so much, Sarah! I bought a 1500 watt Ninja one from Costco and I’m really pleased with it so far!
Nicoletta @sugarlovespices
Here the weather keeps being awful, so I am trying to forget the days until better days come… But the color of this smoothie (which is my favorite color, by the way) is able to bring a smile to my face. Love that is also good for you, and easy and quick to make. Have a beautiful rest of your week!
Girl Heart Food
That’s so nice to hear, Nicoletta!! Fingers crossed for nicer, warmer, sunnier days 😉 Have a wonderful weekend!
Jenny | The Baking Skillet
Definitely need this one in my life right now what with the diet and all. drinking smoothies every morning but my smoothie making skills are limited. So ya, thanks for this one Dawn 🙂
Girl Heart Food
Thanks Jenny! Hope you love it 🙂

My weekend wasn’t quite as exciting. The Mr. and I ran a bunch of errands ( much needed since he’s been in Japan), went to Barry’s Bootcamp so that I could get my boo-TAY handed to me on a platter, and went for a run (with burpees in the mud at each mile) to this awesome reserve (hills for days!!!) on the ocean. This weekend will be more the same as the Mr. gears up to head to London. But I will have lots of baking in my not-so distant future.
As you can tell from the above, intense workouts are part of our daily routine so smoothies are our lifeblood. Definitely going to need to give this beauty a try (with my scoop of collagen protein. ..of course) and lucky for me we just so happen to have blackberries in the fridge.
Girl Heart Food
Whoa! Talk about a kick butt work out! Love it! I love adding protein to smoothies too (and often a powdered veggie mix) – it kinda turns the smoothie a funky colour, but it tastes delicious 🙂 Hope you like this one, Lynn! Thanks so much!
Kim @ The Baking ChocolaTess
Delish! I tried posting on here earlier, but just in case I’ve duplicated, sorry about that. I’m pinning for later! I can’t wait to make this when I get some blackberries! Thanks for the recipe! <3

Thank you Kim! I got both comments – thanks so much! And really appreciate the Pin. Hope you love it!

Ok, this pretty smoothie definitely has my attention! Pinning for later and making as soon as I get some blackberries at the market. Thanks for the recipe! 🙂

Costco for the win every time, right?! This smoothie is gorgeous – loving the color! And the blackberry + coconut combo sounds so refreshing. Pinned! Hope you’re having a great week so far.

So I’m not familiar with Into the Badlands? Maybe I need to be? We’re caught up on Better Call Saul, so now we have to wait and watch it weekly. What the heck? I got so spoiled with the ability to just watch the next episode of a show whenever we have time! But we did go start watching The Killing on Netflix to pass the time in between shows of BCS. So far it’s pretty good…but I think we’re only 2-3 episodes in.
Saturdays. Pre-Robbie, our Saturdays would start with a couple cups of coffee while lazily watching the news or whatever. Then we’d wander off to do errands. Now Saturdays involve inhaling a couple cups of coffee, catch the first 5 minutes of the news and then off on some adventure with Robbie. As noted in my last post, we look for things to do with him on the weekends to entertain him. This past weekend it was the Mother Goose Jazz Band at the local library. Seriously. Stop laughing.
Ok, smothies! I love blackberries. Like I might have been right there with ya buying pounds and pounds and more pounds of ’em. Glad you got a new beefy blender to whir those blackberries into this delicious smoothie. Mmmm…smoothies. 🙂
Girl Heart Food
You should check that show out; I love it and so does hubby! I know – sucks when you catch up on a show and then have to wait, like, a week to see the next episode. Haven’t watched The Killing – will check out though, thanks!
Haha- I may have just chuckled just a little with your adventure to the local library. But, I’m sure it was fun, especially with Robbie 🙂 As long as there’s some kind of coffee involved on the weekend (or any time for that matter), I’m good, lol.
Thanks for the kind words, David!
Katherine
I was so excited to see this smoothie on your Instagram! Blackberries are my absolute fave. Can’t wait to try this out! Also, I haven’t yet watched the latest season of Girls so now I’m really keen to get on that!! Have a great week Dawn!
Girl Heart Food
Thank you very much, Katherine! Have a great week too 🙂
Cindy
Love this combo, and I love that you shagged the old one. Hilarious. Put a smile on my face with that writing and this flavor combo. Anything with coconut, I am pretty much a sucker. And right now, the blackberries are to die for at the farmers markets. This Saturday we got started packing. We just bought a new house. But our usual Saturdays consist of fun family exploring and hopefully a bbq.
Girl Heart Food
Thanks Cindy! I’m a sucker for coconut too – in food and scented coconut stuff. Congrats on your new house – that’s sooo exciting!!
