Made with only five simple ingredients, this blackberry smoothie with coconut is not only a pretty hue but is incredibly creamy and delicious! This frozen berry smoothie makes for a great start to your day or can be enjoyed as a mid-afternoon snack.
Hi friends!
As you’ve probably heard me say before, hubby and I love smoothies and always enjoying trying all sorts of delicious combos. One of our faves is this chocolate peanut butter smoothie.
Like pretty much all smoothies, there’s nothing complicated here.
Throw your ingredients in a blender, whiz up and you are good to go.
Plus, you know what’s in there — no syrups, no weird ingredients, just pure natural goodness. Also, it’s so much cheaper than any smoothie that you are going to buy in a store.
My local coffee shop sells a small smoothie for $5! What? I could make a smoothie at home for a fraction of that price and no line-ups. Score! Plus, you can totally stay home in your comfy clothes!
Why We Love This Blackberry Smoothie Recipe
- It’s made with just 5 ingredients.
- The recipe uses frozen berries (which are pretty much always readily available).
- Like most smoothies, it takes minutes to whip up (so it’s great for a quick breakfast or snack).
- With blackberry and coconut, it tastes delicious!
Can I Use Another Type of Milk?
Absolutely!
If you don’t need this blackberry smoothie to be vegan, you can use regular dairy milk.
Alternatively, oat or soy milk are other (non dairy) options.
Smoothie Toppers
If you want to add extra texture and flavour to your smoothie, any of these toppings work great:
- Frozen or fresh blackberries
- Shredded coconut
- Chia seeds
- Protein powder (mix in when you are blending for extra oomph)
- Flax seeds or meal
Tips and Variations
- Use frozen blackberries! The frozen berries give the smoothie lushness that you wouldn’t get by using fresh.
- This recipe yields two blackberry smoothies, but you can easily half (or double) depending on how many you need.
- If you don’t need this fruit smoothie to be vegan, you can use Greek or Skyr yogurt instead.
- For a different sweetener, you can use honey instead of maple syrup (this would make the smoothie vegetarian, not vegan). Alternatively, you can omit the sweetener, if you like.

Jolina
HAHAHAHA I totally got that Austin Powers reference now I can’t get it out of my head lol. This smoothie looks amazing. And that colour! We like smoothies but our poor blender can’t nearly handle all our smoothie dreams so we’re taking it easy. Maybe it’s time to get me a new toy too! 🙂 I really have no problems just sitting still and doing nothing (especially with a few glasses of wine in me teehee). Our Saturday varies…and mostly depends on the weather these days! Cannot wait for summer.
Girl Heart Food
Hehehe! Thanks Jolina! Can’t wait for summer either 🙂
Luci's Morsels
Smoothies are one of my go to breakfast foods and the combination of blackberry coconut sounds divine! I’d love to give these a try!
Girl Heart Food
Me too, Luci! Thanks so much 🙂
heather (delicious not gorgeous)
fries with stuffing and vinegar?! definitely haven’t heard of that combo before! what kind of vinegar do you douse it with? anyways, this smoothie looks amazing and sounds just as good! i need bananas in my smoothies (they don’t taste sweet or creamy enough without them), so the banana blackberry combo sounds perfect to me (:
Girl Heart Food
Yes! So popular around here and SO good! I use white vinegar and sometimes malt (huge vinegar fan). I love bananas in my smoothies too – they make all the difference, don’t they? Thanks Heather 🙂 Happy Monday!
Mary Ann | The Beach House Kitchen
Love, love, love the blackberry/coconut combo Dawn! This time of year as the fruit starts looking better and better at the market my mind moves to smoothies. Can’t wait to try this one. Enjoy the new blender! Happy Monday! XO
Girl Heart Food

Sues
What a gorgeous color smoothie!! And a simple ingredient list that looks delicious! I nhave a kale smoothie obsession, but feel like I should try to switch it up! I never watched Girls (my sister told me I wouldn’t like it LOL), but I’ve been hearing that the last season was helping it redeem itself!
Girl Heart Food
Thanks Sues!! I love the colour too 🙂 Happy Monday – have a wonderful week!
annie@ciaochowbambina
These smoothies look as perfect as your Saturday sounds! I love going back to the town I grew up in, which is just 20 minutes away! 😉 hahaha! The new restaurants are the bomb – and some of the old are perfectly nostalgic! I don’t know where to begin with this smoothie – color, flavor, ease… It’s all I want in my morning meal! Thanks for sharing, dear! Have a great week! XOXO
Girl Heart Food
Thanks Annie! You’re too sweet! Happy Monday to you, my friend! XOXO
Jennifer @ Seasons and Suppers
Loving this! The combination of coconut and blackberry sounds perfect 🙂 And as an aside, I thoroughly enjoyed my fries with dressing when I was in Nfld, though I clearly didn’t know about the lots of vinegar thing. Must try that!
Girl Heart Food
Yay! Thanks so much, Jennifer! Glad you got to have those fries 😉 I smother mine in vinegar – I just love it!!
Kelsie | the itsy-bitsy kitchen
My blender is super old and is really starting to protest every time I make a smoothie, so I haven’t been making them lately. Clearly it’s time to get a new blender because I NEED this in my life! Blackberries are my favorite–that color! Those fries you had over the weekend sound ridic! I wish I could say I did anything half as fun as eating something like that but nope, just packing, packing, and more packing. Have a great week, Dawn!
Girl Heart Food
Thanks Kelsie! Those fries were definitely so so good! Wish I had some more right now actually 🙂 Cheers to a great week and good luck with your continued packing! xo
Rachelle @ Beer Girl Cooks
It sounds like you had a really fun weekend! We went out of town to a beer festival and had a blast. I’ve never seen Girls, but sounds to me like I should check it out. I do remember all those lazy Saturday mornings watching cartoons. Those were the days. I’m so glad you were able to get a new blender so you could make these smoothies with your million dollars worth of blackberries. I LOVE that color!
Girl Heart Food
We sure did! Beer festival sounds pretty sweet too! We have one coming up here soon too 🙂 Thanks Rach! Hope all is well; have a wonderful week, my friend! xo
Milena | Craft Beering
Saturdays are definitely days to cherish Dawn! So awesome that you can get to your home town and eat at a favorite local joint on the same weekend. Very special. I hear you about ‘fighting’ the blender:) I pretty much make smoothies using a handheld one lately. Takes no time at all to clean it 🙂 Congrats on your new one!
Girl Heart Food
Definitely Milena! Thanks so much! Those handheld ones are pretty awesome too; I use mine often for soup 🙂
Shashi at Savory Spin
Dawn, I couldn’t agree more – coffee house smoothies are insanely priced and they tend to have ALL that sugar in ’em – this one is not only gorgeous to look at but is so healthy and tasty too! Yay for a new blender ! BTW, I know what you mean ’bout getting sad when a show ends – last month, our fav show “Vampire Diaries” ended – as in kapeesh – no more running into the filming crew in Covington GA (they filmed locally) – no more Friday nights catching the latest episode – no more season parties – GAH – we were sad – still are… we just need to find a GREAT how again! I haven’t watched Girls or Into the Badlands – maybe I should?
I’ve never had fries with gravy and vinegar, either – GAH – I need to rethink referring to myself as a food blogger! But – I have entertained a mean craving that didn’t go away till I gave into it! I wish it had been for a healthy smoothie – but it was for chocolate cake! 🙂
Hope your week is off to a wonderful start! xo
Girl Heart Food
High five, girl! Thank you!! Too bad about your show! You’ll have to find another one 🙂 It’s especially nice when there’s a little tradition of watching it too – sitting back, having a snack….something to look forward to. The little things, ya know? What? You’ve never had fries with gravy and vinegar (dressing too?). Girl, you need to get on that! If you ever visit here, this is the place to get it. I have dreams about those fries, lol. Cheers to a great week, my friend! xo
Cheyanne @ No Spoon Necessary
Our weekend was super busy, but Boy and I managed to squeeze in lunch at one of our favorite restaurants and we dined al fresco, so it made ALL the crazy worth it. I’m pretty easy to please. 🙂 I haven’t seen the season finale of Girls yet, but I’m SUPER sad the show is over. Womp Womp. Aaaand I haven’t seen the badlands. Boy keeps bringing it up, but I didn’t love the trailer so I keep saying NO. lol. Obviously I need to watch it if you recommend it!! 🙂 Anyways, yay for pretty smoothies!! The color of this one DEFINITELY makes me smile! And the flavors sound scrumptious! I mean, blackberry, ‘naner, and coconut!? YES please! Cheers, lady! xo
Girl Heart Food
Glad to hear you had time to fit in a yummy lunch! I’m all about that food, lol. Go watch Girls and let me know what you think!! You definitely do need to watch Into the Badlands – really good action packed show. Thanks so much for the kind words, Cheyanne. Hope you have a wicked week! xo
Kathy @ Beyond the Chicken Coop
I pretty much love every kind of berry and blackberries are definitely near the top. I love making smoothies and am always looking for new combinations. I tend to get into a rut! Love the blackberry coconut combination! Yum!!!
Girl Heart Food
Me too Kathy! Thanks so much; I even love the colour of this one as much as the taste 😉
Gayle @ Pumpkin 'N Spice
Sounds like you had a good weekend, Dawn! It’s always a blast to go back to your hometown and visit those special places. And those fries sound AMAZING! They don’t make those like that in Chicago, but they should…I’m in love with the sound of those! And I would LOVE to go back to being a kid and watch Saturday cartoons with my bowl of sugar-loaded cereal. Those were the days! And yay for a new blender and ALL the berries! Don’t you just want to whip up everything now? I’m absolutely LOVING this gorgeous smoothie! That color and flavor has me hooked, plus, you just can’t beat five ingredients. Sounds pretty good for a Monday! Pinning this beauty! Hope your week is off to a great start!
Girl Heart Food
We definitely did! Those fries are so good. Even talking about ’em now makes me want them all over again, lol. Thanks for the sweet comment and Pin, Gayle! Happy Monday! Cheers to a great week 🙂
