A deliciously easy strawberry mango margarita made in minutes with chunks of frozen fruit! This frozen margarita recipe is thick, not too sweet, and perfect for Cinco de Mayo or those summer parties.
Hey! What’s up? Today I’m bringing you a yummy, thirst quenching, super thick, frozen margarita recipe, perfect for Cinco de Mayo! Sound good?
Now, I’m going to give you fair warning; these strawberry mango margaritas are little tricksters.
Why?
They taste deliciously fruity and sweet and you hardly realize that there’s tequila in there.
Watch out, because after one or two they may knock you on your little butt. I may speak from experience.
One drink and I’m good. Two and I’m gone to sleep (or playing piano; honestly, it could go either way).
Then again maybe it’s just getting older? Hmm …
And, for the record, I’m a hugger. However, every now and then upon leaving a larger party, I go the route of an “Irish exit.” Basically, it’s quietly departing the party without telling anyone. No fuss, no muss. Feel me?
Margarita Ingredients
Traditionally, classic margaritas consist of:
- Tequila
- Orange liqueur
- Lime juice
- Salt (for the rim of the glass)
A frozen margarita, especially fruity margaritas (like this one) has the addition of fruit, in this case frozen strawberry and frozen mango. There’s also coconut water (for flavour and to thing things) and a touch of sugar.
How To Make Frozen Margaritas
So, today, we are taking things a step further and making a frozen margarita recipe.
The difference between a frozen margarita and a classic margarita is basically the consistency.
For a frozen margarita the ice is typically crushed and everything is added to the blender to make a nice thick cocktail, a slushy consistency.
Whereas, a classic margarita is more of a traditional style cocktail, with or without ice cubes. So, to make a frozen margarita:
- Rub a lime wedge around the top of a margarita glass to moisten.
- Place a little sugar and salt on a plate and mix together.
- Invert glass into the sugar/salt mixture to coat the rim.
- Then, in a blender, combine frozen strawberry, mango, lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, coconut water, crushed ice and a touch of sugar. Blend until combined.
- Pour into prepared glasses, garnish (optional) and enjoy!
Note: Full details are in the recipe card below.
Can I Make a Non-Alcoholic Frozen Margarita?
Yes! It’s a delicious treat, especially in the warm summer months.
If opting for a alcohol free margarita, simply replace the tequila with more coconut water and replace the orange liqueur with extra orange juice (optional, add in a little orange zest for an extra pop of flavour).
How Do You Make Frozen Drinks Thick?
This margarita is super thick (which is how I love them). If you use fresh fruit here and find that it’s not quite thick enough (or you just like your frozen margarita really really thick), add a little more crushed ice (start with ½ cup). Blend in and see how you like it. Add more, if necessary.
Tips for Making This Recipe
- If you want a looser (thinner) consistency, just add a little more coconut water (or orange juice). Keep in mind that a little at a time because a little goes a long way.
- I used frozen fruit in this recipe (which I love). I find it lends itself to a deliciously slushy, cold, refreshing cocktail, which is just what you are looking for when you are talking margaritas.
- The rim of this frozen cocktail was a salt/sugar mixture because I love salty and sweet combos. However, if you prefer you could use all salt or all sugar. You do you!
- I blended a little sugar into the drink. Like things sweeter? Simply add a little more.
- Used crushed ice here (not cubed). It makes things a lot easier on your blender.
What To Serve with Margaritas
- Shrimp tacos
- Oven-baked fish tacos
- Homemade salsa (with chips)
- Guacamole (with chips)

Frozen Strawberry Mango Margarita
Ingredients
Garnish
- ½ tablespoon white sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- lime wedge, optional
- strawberry, optional
Strawberry Mango Margarita
- 1.5 cup sliced frozen strawberries
- 1 cup frozen mango cubes
- ⅓ cup lime juice, from about 3 limes
- 3 ounces tequila
- 2 ounces orange liqueur
- ⅓ coconut water, or more depending on how thick you like it (or orange juice)
- 1 cup crushed ice
- 1 tablespoon white sugar, or to taste
Instructions
Garnish (sugar & salt mixture around rim of glass)
- Place sugar and salt on a plate and stir to combine. Rub a wedge of lime along the rim of margarita glasses to wet. Dip lime rubbed glass in sugar to coat the rim. Set glasses aside.
Strawberry Mango Margarita
- To a blender, add strawberries, mango, lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, coconut water (or orange juice), ice and sugar. Blend until combined, stopping to scrape the sides of the blender with a rubber spatula if necessary. Mixture will be thick. If you want a looser (thinner) consistency, add more coconut water (or orange juice) until you've reached the thickness you like. And if you like it sweeter, add more sugar to taste.
Serve and Garnish
- Divide the frozen margarita mixture between two margarita glasses and garnish (if desired) with a wedge of lime and strawberry. Serve and enjoy!

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Mmm, these margaritas look tasty – but tequila and I are NOT friends, so I’d totally sub in vodka instead. Vodka & I get along! And it’s funny that you mention piano playing while tipsy… My husband and I tend to break out the guitar (he plays) and I hop on the piano to jam out while drinking wine! So fun 🙂

This margarita is THE ONE I want to be handed at a pool bar, better yet, one of those in-pool bars where you never really leave the pool, just swim up to your bar stool…I would need to stop at one though, for risk of drowning:)
Girl Heart Food
Yay! Thanks Milena! It’s definitely refreshing and not too sweet at all. Have a great weekend 🙂

That color is driving me absolutely crazy! I don’t even care that they’re predicting flurries this weekend (well, I do care), but I’m having this gorgeous frozen margarita anyway! This is one stunning drink, Dawn! Margaritas are my favorite, especially with strawberry added because I go crazy for a drink that’s tasty and pretty :). But with mango in there too? YASSSS! I’m definitely an Irish exit-er. I didn’t know there was a term for it but since I’m like half Irish I guess it makes sense? Have a happy Cinco de Mayo and an awesome weekend!
Girl Heart Food
Thank you Kelsie!! Half Irish – well I’d say that the Irish exist is definitely your thing 😉 Happy Cinco de Mayo to you too!

This one is a total beauty Dawn! And the first frozen margarita I’ve seen so far. I loved that you’ve made it easy with frozen fruit too. I’m with you. One margarita and I’m done. Crazy things happen when I have more than one! Pinning and can’t wait to try. Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Tequila gets me every time, too! I can’t drink it straight, but in margaritas, sign me up! It is dangerous, though, but so worth it! I’m loving this strawberry mango margarita, Dawn! My husband and I LOVE the frozen versions of margaritas, and I know we would both adore this one. And even better that you can’t taste the liquor in it. I’m definitely going to try this the next time I make homemade margaritas. Love that pretty color! Pinned, of course! Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
Girl Heart Food
I can’t drink tequila straight either (well, I can, but it doesn’t turn out good for me, lol). Yay for loving frozen margaritas!! Can’t wait for you guys to try and hope you enjoy it! Thanks so much for the kind words and Pin! Have a wonderful weekend too 🙂

Oh, I could so get on board the Margarita Train! (woot woot) In fact, I plan on getting a ticket tomorrow. 🙂 I love the mango addition to this one…it sounds like the perfect fruity drink on a hot summer day. So I’ve never heard about the Irish Exit, but I am totally guilty of doing that. Sometimes it’s just easier to duck out quietly! Laura and I have been working on our jalapeno margarita recipe, but I’m thinking this would be a nice way to mix it up. Sometimes that jalapeno one can sneak up and burn your tastebuds right off! Have a great day, Dawn!
Girl Heart Food
Yes! That train is a delicious one 😉 Irish Exit is definitely the way to go sometimes, that’s for sure!! Yum – jalapeno margarita recipe sounds perfect! Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with! Cheers to a fabulous weekend.
