Nourishing, warming, and simply delicious, this easy golden milk (or turmeric milk) is sure to be a favourite, especially during the colder months when you need something to warm ya up!

This golden milk recipe is one of my favourite warm drinks to date!
I’ve always been a fan of warm milk at night, so it’s no surprise that I love this golden milk recipe.
Me, pajamas, bunny slippers, top bun and golden milk. Yeap, that’s pretty much a random weekday night for me.
I lead an exciting life, I know.
With lots of warming spices, coconut and maple syrup, what’s not to love?
Fair warning, though, turmeric is one tricky little bugger.
It can stain your counters, your hands (and also ruin your white nail polish), so try to be neat while handling.
Other than that? Go for it!
What Is Golden Milk?
With origins in India, golden milk has been around for quite some time. This warm drink has gained more popularity in recent years, especially in coffee shops with golden milk lattes (meaning expensive drinks that you can make at home on the cheap).
Essentially golden milk (also known as “turmeric milk”) is a warm milk with all those cozy cold weather spices, like turmeric, cinnamon and sometimes, cardamom. You can make it as sweet (or not) as you like! I love a big mug on a cold day! So cozy!

Ingredients Needed
- Coconut flavoured almond milk (or coconut milk or dairy)
- Coconut oil
- Turmeric
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- Cardamom
- Black pepper
- Vanilla extract
- Maple syrup

How To Make This Recipe
Making golden milk couldn’t be simpler! You place all the ingredients in a saucepan, warm through and serve (full details are in the recipe card below).
Tip: Once the milk has started to bubble just a tad around the edges, warm through for 5 to 8 minutes or so. Don’t boil or leave it. Whisk occasionally.

What Does It Taste Like?
Golden milk has lots of delicious flavour from those warming spices, like cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom.
You can make it as sweet (or not) as you like with the addition of maple syrup (or your favourite sweetener). It’s creamy and seriously good!

Tips for Making Golden Milk
- Milk can boil over quickly! Don’t turn it on and leave.
- The spices can settle to the bottom of the mug. Serve with a spoon or cinnamon stick to give a little swirl as you are enjoying.
- I like to use ground cinnamon here. If you only have cinnamon sticks on hand, you can use those. However, because of the short cook time, I find that the ground cinnamon imparts more flavour than its whole counterpart.
- If you like more (or less) of a spice, feel free to adjust to your taste.

Recipe Variations
- Coconut flavoured almond milk was used here to cut back a little on the fat that would come from full-fat coconut milk. Feel free to sub with your favourite dairy or non dairy.
- Instead of coconut oil, you can use ghee (clarified butter) instead.
- Occasionally, I’ve also added a pinch of ground nutmeg and cayenne to my golden milk drinks.
- Maple syrup is the sweetener of choice here, but you can use something else (like mashed dates) or honey (if you don’t need this to be vegan).

Notes

- The spices can settle to the bottom of the mug. Serve with a spoon or cinnamon stick to give a little swirl as you are enjoying.
- I like to use ground cinnamon here. If you only have cinnamon sticks on hand, you can use those. However, because of the short cook time, I find that the ground cinnamon imparts more flavour than its whole counterpart.

- If you don’t need this golden milk to be vegan, you can substitute the coconut almond milk with your favorite dairy milk.

Not gonna lie. The best part of this post was the bunny slippers. I was hoping you’d post a link to those! 🙂 Just kidding. (Maybe.) I’ve yet to try golden milk, but with all of the warming spices in there I know I would be a fan! Plus, anything with maple syrup is tasty. This sounds like a great drink to sip on while sitting on the couch after dinner!
