This mixed nut butter has a lot of goodness packed in one little jar! It’s made with a variety of nuts and seeds (plus a touch of salt), for one incredibly tasty homemade spread. Making nut butter at home is easy and you’re going to want to make this one again and again. It’ll be your new favourite thing to spread on toast!

If you’re a fan of homemade nut butters (like me), then this mixed nut butter is for you!
A while back, I came across a store-bought version. Once I tried it, I was hooked. And you know I had to make a homemade version.
I’m no stranger to homemade nut butters (hello roasted almond butter and cashew butter), so naturally this seed and nut version is on regular rotation in our home.
Once you make it, you’re always gonna want some on hand too!
What type of spread do you enjoy on toast? I do love plain ol’ butter, but there’s nothing like scratch made nut butter.
I like my bread sliced thin and toasted on just one side. We have an old-fashioned toaster that toasts one side at a time. It’s old as heck, but it’s the best!
How To Make Mixed Nut Butter
Full details on how to make homemade nut butter are in the recipe card below, but here are the basics:
- Place the roasted cashews, peanuts and almonds in a food processor, along with the sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.
- Process. It’s going to look “sandy” at first, but it will come together.
- Keep processing, stopping as necessary to scrape the sides of the processor with a spatula.
- Once everything is nice and creamy, add chia seeds, sesame seeds and salt. Give another little process. And, that’s it!
Do I Need To Add Oil?
Not at all!
All the ingredients are simply placed in the food processor and processed. Nothing to it!
As I mentioned previously (when I made homemade roasted almond butter), there’s going to be a point when you are mixing the ingredients up and you think it’s not going to come together. Trust me, friends, it will. Then you’ll be left with the most delicious mixed nut butter.
Of course, food processors vary in strength so if you want to divide the recipe in half (to make things easier on your processor) go for it!
Tips for Making This Recipe
- If you don’t have the exact quantity of each nut and seed, no worries! If you have more, say, almonds, on hand than cashews that’s ok. Just use more almonds and less cashews.
- Speaking of nuts, use an unsalted variety so you can control the salt content.
- Salt was added to this seed and nut butter, but you can omit if you like.
- Use fresh nuts and seeds as it will have an impact on your overall finished recipe.
Enjoy on toast, in smoothies or straight outta the jar (like I sometimes do)!
This makes such a lovely homemade gift. Aren’t homemade food gifts the best?

Mixed Nut Butter With Seeds
Ingredients
- 2 cups unsalted peanuts
- 1 cup unsalted almonds
- 1 cup unsalted cashews
- ½ cup unsalted sunflower seeds
- ½ cup unsalted pumpkin seeds
- 2 tablespoons chia seeds
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place peanuts, almonds and cashews on a sheet pan and spread out. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, watching to ensure they don't burn and rotating the pan about halfway through cooking. Remove and let cool.Note: To speed up cooling time, you can place the peanuts, almonds and cashews on a new sheet pan and place into the fridge until cooled.
- Combine peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds in a food processor and process for about 10 to 15 minutes (or until smooth and everything is combined), stopping as necessary to scrape the sides of the processor with a spatula.Note: It's best to use a large, high-powered food processor here, something with about a 12 to 14 cup capacity.
- Once mixture is smooth, add chia seeds, sesame seeds and salt. Process for about 1 more minute.
- Transfer the mixed nut butter to a storage jar, cover, refrigerate and enjoy within 2 weeks. Yields about 2 cups.

Haha My toaster works the same…it’s not old just so faulty sometimes I swear it has a mind of its own. On some days it works perfectly, toasting both sides perfectly and on others…I am sure on Mondays..it throws it’s tantrums and toasts one side at a time.
I absolutely love your recipe for this mixed seed and nut butter. It looks so simple and really delicious ?. I am really going to enjoy this on my toast…but not on Monday ?

Haha! Thanks so much Ashika 🙂

I tried making almond butter once and you are right…I said, nope this isn’t going to work! It seemed to take forever and I worried about my food processor. I’ll need to try it again. This mixed nut butter looks fabulous!

Definitely! It will come together. It’s actually fascinating to watch it happen 🙂 Hope you try it!

I know what you mean by ‘there was no wind’, lol! I really can appreciate the beautiful day you describe:) Living in Estes Park had driven us crazy a few years ago! Many trees only had branches on one side… gave up on growing branches against the wind, lol. I am loving this nuts and seeds butter you whipped up. So healthy, yet so delicious. And if you chilled it and made tiny little rolled balls from it, it could easily be a finger food app style delicacy. To pair with stouts:) Pinning to an appropriately themed board:)
Girl Heart Food says
I’m glad you can 😉 I like that idea, Milena!! High five girl! Thanks so much!

I pinned this one immediately, Dawn!! I know that mixed nut butter you’re referring to from Costco, and I’ve yet to buy it but I’ve always been curious. Now I can make my own!! Thank you!! I can’t wait to try this in some recipes in place of peanut butter or almond butter. PS – I LOVED Rainbow Brite.
Girl Heart Food says
Yay! Thank you, Katherine!! Sweet of ya!! Hope you love it as much as I do.

What a great idea for hostess gifts Dawn! You’re inspiring me to think ahead for the holidays! Can’t wait to try this! My favorite toy was a light up tracer. I wasn’t a very good artist, so it helped me trace things, like comics from the Sunday paper. I loved that thing. I still have it too! Hope you have a great week!
Girl Heart Food says
Thank you Mary Ann! It’s starting to get that time whether we like it or not, right? I don’t want it to come too fast, but am pretty excited! That sounds like such a fun toy and so awesome that you still have it! Have a great week too.
Cheyanne @ No Spoon Necessary says
We already “talked” about this rainbow brite thing, but her along with strawberry short cake and barbie of course were my favorites. I didn’t know they were revamping rainbow brite though! Makes me wish Boy and I could have children…a girl obviously. 😉 I’d force Rainbow Brite upon her. bahahaha. Anyways, LOVING this butter! You really jam packed it with all the yum! I could eat this with a shovel for sure! Cheers, doll! XOXO

Barbie was pretty awesome too. I would take my brother’s G.I. Joe figures and make them go on dates with my Barbies! Ha! Too funny! Thanks Chey! XOXO

I had an ahah moment when I read the title, why wouldn’t I just used mixed nuts!
I sometimes find the flavours of just one nut butter to be kinda flat but using multiple is genius. Something so simple just changed my thought about making them at home.
Girl Heart Food says
Yay for those! You definitely need to give it a try – it’s so good!!
Kelsie | the itsy-bitsy kitchen says
I still have a popple (which my computer wants to auto correct to “pope”) upstairs. Cookie tried to steal it for herself but I was like, no way sister! I LOOOOOVED Rainbow Bright too! And the Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake. I had some scented Strawberry Shortcake books that my mom insists she kept but which are nowhere to be found at my parents’ house :(. I’m definitely going to pick up a Rainbow Bright for myself :). Along with the ingredients for this glorious butter! Anything with all those nuts and seeds is easily my favorite. Have a great week, Dawn!
Girl Heart Food says
Auto correct is the worse! Oh my…when I brought the doll home, fur baby thought it was for him, lol, but definitely no. Care Bears are pretty awesome too and I still have one! Don’t you wish you still had some of those original childhood toys?? Thanks Kelsie! Have a great week too 🙂
Sarah @ Champagne Tastes says
I need to do this! There’s a mixed nut butter that I love that’s like.. $10 a jar (ack) but it’s SO GOOD! I should really make my own!
Girl Heart Food says
You totally do! It’s delicious 🙂

Aww I didn’t realize Rainbow Brite was making a comeback! So cool. I also loved her 🙂 But my all-time favorite too was my Wrinkles the Talking Dog. He was so annoying and drove my family crazy, but I loved him! I also love this nut butter… I’m a huge fan of the addition of chia seeds!
Girl Heart Food says
Yes! Awesome, right?? I don’t remember Wrinkles! Now, I’ll have to look him up. Thanks Sues 🙂

Haha I always say ‘Happy Monday’ buuut it really isn’t so happy for most people, especially non-morning people (like me!). And yay for Rainbow Brite! I saw that on fb and was instantly taken back to my childhood. I used to have a Rainbow Brite comforter and tent…she was a favorite of mine! Along with care bears, Jem (do you remember that cartoon?), Strawberry Shortcake, My little pony, etc. And yay for nut butter! I love making homemade nut butters, and this mixed version sounds delicious! Wishing I had a big spoonful of this right now! Pinned! Hope your week is off to a great start!
Girl Heart Food says
Haha! Well, at least we can try to make it happy, right?? Yes! Care Bears! I actually have one, lol. And I do definitely remember Jem! Oh, memories!! Thanks so much, Gayle, for the trip down memory lane 🙂

This sounds delicious! I’d love to be the recipient of a jar of this nut butter – that’s a great idea! I loved many toys but I’d have to say Barbie was the first one that came to mind. I probably had every accessory they made… I wish I kept everything; now it’s just a sweet memory – but that’s cool, too! Hope your week is great, my friend! XO
Girl Heart Food says
Barbie!!! Loved her too and like you I wish I still had it. There’s a lot of stuff like that that I wish I still had! Have a wonderful week too! XOXO
