Looking for an easy wing recipe that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser? These spicy peanut sauce chicken wings combine crispy baked wings with a flavour-packed peanut sauce. They’re savoury, rich and nutty with a touch of spice. So deliciously mouthwatering!
When you combine chicken wings with peanut butter and other flavourful ingredients like soy sauce, lime juice, ginger, garlic and sesame oil, the end result is so freaking delicious!
And I’m going to say it, I think this is my favourite recipe for baked wings. There is so little fuss to make this recipe and the results are phenomenal.
The wings, simple as they are, are delicious on their own even before they’re tossed in the sauce, and I’m pretty sure the peanut sauce would taste good on just about anything.
I’d say to serve these saucy wings with napkins, but you’re probably going to want to lick your fingers, LOL. No sauce wasted, am I right?

Ingredients
- Spicy peanut sauce: This spicy and creamy peanut sauce recipe is so good, friends! It combines peanut butter (use either a chunky or creamy variety), soy sauce, lime juice, Sriracha, chili crisp, ginger, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic and water (to thin the sauce as necessary).
- Chicken wings: This baked chicken wing recipe calls for two pounds of chicken wings (that is the weight after they’re split, that is, the drumettes and flats separated and the tips removed and discarded).
- Vegetable oil: Used to coat the chicken wings before they’re baked.
- Seasoning: Seasoning for the wings is kept quite simple with just a little salt and black pepper.
How To Make Spicy Peanut Sauce Chicken Wings
Here is an overview of how to make crispy baked chicken wings with spicy peanut sauce (full details are in the recipe card below):
- Make the peanut sauce by whisking together peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, Sriracha, chili crisp, ginger, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic and water.
- Place the chicken wings in a bowl and coat with vegetable oil.
- Spread the chicken wings out onto a parchment paper-lined sheet pan and lightly season with salt and black pepper. I don’t like to add too much salt here because the peanut sauce has some salty elements.
- Bake the wings, turning about halfway through cooking, until golden brown and crispy and cooked through.
- Place the baked wings in a clean bowl and coat with the spicy peanut sauce.
- Transfer the wings to a plate and garnish with peanuts, sesame seeds, green onion and cilantro. There ya have it, super delicious peanut sauce chicken wings that are ready to be devoured!
When Are the Chicken Wings Cooked?
When making crispy baked wings, I cook them for about 50 to 60 minutes in a preheated oven set to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Of course, the time could vary slightly depending on things like how large the wings are and how crispy you want them.
Once they’re golden brown and crispy on the outside and reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit (at the thickest, meatiest part), they’re ready to be coated in the spicy peanut sauce.
Truth be told, though, I’ve often been known to grab one (or two) wings from the sheet pan to devour even before I’ve had a chance to toss them in the sauce. How could I possibly resist? Plus, quality control, right? Hehehe.
Leftovers
No doubt about it, these peanut sauce chicken wings are best served freshly made while they’re crispy and saucy.
Having said that, if you do find yourself with leftovers, no worries! Properly store leftover wings and peanut sauce in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat the wings before serving.
Reheating
To reheat leftover wings, remove them from the refrigerator for a few minutes while you are preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and place the wings on there with space between each one. Bake the wings for about 15 minutes or until they’re crisped up and reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit at the thickest part of the wing. Then you can either toss them with any remaining peanut sauce or serve the sauce on the side for dunking.
What To Serve With It
I could seriously make a meal out of just these wings, they’re that yummy. But, of course, if you want to add a side, the wings pair great with any of these:
- Simple steamed rice
- Flavoured rice, such as coconut rice
- Cauliflower rice
- Spicy ramen noodles
- Garlicky green beans
- Garden salad
- Cucumber salad
- Crispy potato wedges or French fries
Tips
- The wings: This recipe calls for two pounds of wings (a combination of drumettes and flats). You can typically purchase split wings (sometimes referred to as party wings) in the grocery store. If you can’t find them, you can certainly purchase whole wings and split them yourself into the drumette and flat parts, discarding the tips. Just keep in mind that if you are starting with whole wings and are going to cut them up yourself, you’ll need to start with a little more than two pounds of whole wings to account for the removal of the wing tips.
- Peanut butter: You can use either natural crunchy peanut butter or natural creamy peanut butter. I prefer the natural variety over one with added ingredients, such as sugar.
- Adjust the spice: The peanut sauce gets spice from Sriracha and chili crisp. Feel free to add less of either if you want your sauce less spicy. Alternatively, if you want a spicier peanut sauce, add more. Remember, add a little at a time. You can always add more if you feel it needs it.
- Thin the peanut sauce as necessary: Before adding water, the peanut sauce is quite thick. Thin it out with a little water. It’s best to add a little at a time until you reach the consistency you like best. Generally speaking, I tend to add about 3 to 4 tablespoons of water to the peanut sauce.
- Line your sheet pan: Don’t skip lining the sheet pan with parchment paper. It makes cleanup that much easier.
- Double the recipe: This recipe for spicy peanut sauce chicken wings is so yummy and perfect for entertaining. If you want to feed more people, you can easily double the recipe. If needed, just use another sheet pan so the wings are spread out nicely.
Variations
- Mix up the spice: Instead of chili crisp, use some crushed red pepper flakes, ground cayenne pepper or freshly minced Thai chili pepper (also known as bird’s eye chili). I would recommend using a little of whatever you are substituting it with and add more to taste as necessary. Remember, it’s easier to add than to take away.
- Use a different nut butter: Try cashew butter instead of peanut butter. Keep in mind that cashew butter is milder in flavour than peanut butter, so you won’t get the exact same punch of flavour. It is, however, delicious and a fun way to mix things up. If you’re looking for something homemade, try this cashew butter recipe (it’s best to use the smooth or crunchy variety rather than one of the flavoured ones).

Baked Chicken Wings
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.Note: Don't have one large sheet pan? Use two smaller ones. You want to be able to spread the wings out over the pan, with space between each wing.
- Place the chicken wings in a bowl and drizzle over the vegetable oil. Stir to coat the wings in the vegetable oil.
- Place the chicken wings onto the prepared sheet pan, spreading them out nicely with a little space between each one. Season lightly with salt and black pepper.Note: I just lightly season the chicken wings with salt and pepper because the peanut sauce has salty elements.
- Bake the wings for 30 minutes. Remove the sheet pan from the oven and flip the wings. Place the sheet pan back in the oven and continue to bake the wings for another 25 to 30 minutes until they're golden brown and crispy on the outside and fully cooked through.
Combine Peanut Sauce and Wings
- Place the cooked wings in a clean bowl, then pour over half of the peanut sauce. Toss or stir to coat the wings in the sauce.
Garnish
- Transfer the wings to a serving plate, then garnish with peanuts, green onion and toasted sesame seeds and cilantro. Serve with the remaining peanut sauce. Enjoy! Serves 2 to 4, depending on if you are serving as a main dish, appetizer or with a side dish.
