Fluffy rice and seasoned ground turkey come together for one delicious dinner, made in under 30 minutes! These ground turkey rice bowls are easy, comforting and can be garnished to taste with your favourite toppings!
Rice bowls. I’m obsessed. Why? It’s quite simple, actually. I love carbs! Bread, rice, buns and pizza, it’s all my foodie love language.
And pair those said carbs with lean ground turkey that’s seasoned with things like soy sauce, ginger and sesame oil? Oh yeah, delicious!
Plus, I just love recipes where I can just pile the ingredients in a bowl and customize it with toppings according to what I feel like on any given day.
Why We Love These Ground Turkey Rice Bowls
- These rice bowls come together in under 30 minutes (depending on which variety of rice you use).
- They can be customized to taste with toppings.
- Lunch or dinner, this bowl works great.
- Of course, they taste so delicious!
How To Make Turkey and Rice Bowls
Full details are in the recipe card below, but here are the basics:
Basically, you cook the rice according to package instructions. While the rice is doing its thing, start cooking the ground turkey.
Heat the olive oil in a skillet, add the ground turkey, then cook until it’s fully cooked through.
Once done, just add garlic, soy sauce, ginger, chili paste, sesame oil and fish sauce, then cook for another minute or two.
Then it’s just a matter of dividing the rice between a couple of bowls, topping with the cooked ground turkey and garnishing to taste. Easy, right?
Variety of Rice To Use
Use what you enjoy best, really! I enjoy jasmine rice, but other delicious options are brown rice, white rice, basmati rice and a wild rice blend. Heck, you could even use a parboiled or instant rice if you like (definite time-saver if you are pinched for time).
Do I Have To Use Rice?
Note at all! While I do love rice here (and they are “rice bowls”), you can totally use cauliflower rice or quinoa instead of the rice.
Make Things More Substantial
To add more substance, heartiness and oomph to your rice bowls, try adding a fried egg (a sunny-side up egg, like I used in this egg and rice bowl recipe would be perfect)! The yolk creates a sauce component which works lovely in these turkey rice bowls.
Add in some veggies! Sautéed baby bok choy, simple steamed or roasted broccoli, shredded carrot, corn or sliced cucumber would all be lovely additions to this bowl.
Rice Bowl Garnish Ideas

I haven’t had any turkey with Asian flavoring before, so this was a pleasant surprise! I messed up and forgot to get sesame oil but I did add corn to the turkey. This was very filling and I’d be happy to try it again!

Can you use chili sauce? Can not find paste up where I live.

Hi Thanagi! I used chili paste (or sambal oelek) and haven’t tried with chili sauce. Though I can’t say for sure, I would image it would work. 🙂 Hope you enjoy! Love to know how it turns out for you!
