These baked eggnog donuts are infused with eggnog and warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. Topped with an eggnog icing sugar glaze and sprinkles, they make for a delicious, festive holiday treat!
I’m managing to sneak one more festive holiday dessert in before Christmas! Can I get a virtual high five?
Don’t have to twist my arm to use some eggnog (or to eat donuts, if I’m being honest here). The countdown is on in our home.
I didn’t grow up enjoying eggnog, but now it’s something hubby and I regularly enjoy, just like gingerbread cake and hot chocolate.
We stock up on eggnog stuff during the holidays. It’s a good thing that it’s only around for a month or so because it definitely is a decadent treat.
Despite having eggnog and icing sugar and all that good stuff, these baked donuts are not overly sweet. They’re a great way to mix up that cookie tray for Santa.
Plus, this is a great recipe to use leftover eggnog you may have!
How To Make Eggnog Donuts
Theses baked eggnog donuts literally take minutes to whip up and less than 10 minutes to bake. The hardest part is waiting for them to cool before glazing. Full details are in the recipe card below, but here are the basics:
- In a bowl, mix together dry ingredients (sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg).
- In another bowl (or large measuring cup), mix together wet ingredients (eggnog, melted butter, egg and rum extract).
- Then whisk wet ingredients into dry ingredients, scraping bowl with a spatula to get all the batter.
- Pour batter into a greased donut pan and bake. Cool completely before icing.
Once you’ve made donuts at home, there’s no going back. Plus, you get to stay in your pajamas while enjoying them!
Tips for Making This Recipe
- Cake flour was used here, but all-purpose will work in a pinch. This guide to flour is a great reference when baking.
- Rum extract was used, but if you don’t have that on hand, no worries! Use vanilla extract.
- Regular eggnog was used (that is, not a light variety). Use whichever variety you prefer.
- If you want to add another element of flavour to these baked donuts, brown the butter, like I used in my mashed turnip recipe.
- Let the donuts cool completely before glazing. Otherwise, the glaze will absorb into the donuts.
- Garnish with sprinkles as soon as you ice the donuts so those suckers will stick.

Baked Eggnog Donuts With Eggnog Icing Sugar Glaze
Ingredients
Baked Eggnog Donuts
- Cooking spray, to grease pan
- 1 cup cake flour, or all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ⅓ cup eggnog
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup melted unsalted butter
- 1.5 teaspoons rum extract, or vanilla extract
Icing Sugar Glaze
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 3 teaspoons milk
- 1 teaspoon eggnog
- pinch freshly grated nutmeg
Optional Garnish
- Sprinkles, garnish to taste
Instructions
Baked Eggnog Donuts
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 6-count donut pan with cooking spray and set aside.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggnog, egg, melted butter and rum extract.
- Pour eggnog mixture over flour mixture, whisking until combined and there are no steaks of flour remaining.
- Spoon or pipe the donut batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake the donuts for 6 to 7 minutes or until a wooden toothpick or cake tester inserted in the donuts comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then remove the donuts from the pan and allow to fully cool on a cooling rack before glazing.
Icing Sugar Glaze
- Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl until smooth. Note: If you want a thicker consistency, use less milk. Alternatively, if you want a thinner consistency, use more milk. If you've made your glaze too thin, you can always thicken with a little more icing sugar.
Glaze the Donuts
- When cool, invert donuts, one at a time, into icing sugar mixture. Place onto a cooling rack and garnish with sprinkles (if using) before the glaze dries. You can let the glaze set for a few minutes (if you like) before digging it. Enjoy!
Notes
- Let the donuts cool completely before glazing. Otherwise, the glaze will absorb into the donuts.
- Garnish with sprinkles as soon as you ice the donuts so those suckers will stick.
- These donuts are best enjoyed the day they are made.
