When you’re craving a homemade burger, why not try these Mediterranean ground chicken burgers? They’re juicy, delicious and absolutely packed with yummy ingredients (like feta, roasted red peppers and herbs). They’re such a satisfying meal to enjoy any day of the week!
I love a good burger. You too? Whether it’s classic beef burgers, turkey burgers or chicken burgers, they always hit the spot.
Just like this ground chicken meatloaf, these Mediterranean ground chicken burgers are a favourite, and it’s no surprise why.
With plenty of aromatic herbs, salty feta cheese and roasted red peppers, they are so incredibly flavourful.

Ingredients
- Ground chicken: Ground chicken is a great alternative to ground beef when you are looking for something a little different. Keep the ground chicken chilled until you are ready to use (the burgers tend to bind better that way).
- Fresh bread crumbs: Plain, fresh bread crumbs help to bind the chicken burgers. There’s no need to use a flavoured variety as there’s tons of seasoning in these burgers.
- Feta cheese: Instead of garnishing the chicken burgers with feta, feta is actually incorporated into the patties. So yummy!
- Veggies: Roasted red peppers, red onion and garlic add a pop of colour, some moisture and tons of flavour to these homemade burgers.
- Herbs: Fresh herbs (like parsley, dill and oregano) add another element of flavour and pop of colour to the patties.
- Seasoning: Crushed red pepper flakes, salt and black pepper are used.
- Lemon juice: A little splash of fresh lemon juice really compliments the other ingredients.
- Olive oil: Used for pan-frying the chicken burgers. If you like, you can grease your frying pan with cooking spray instead.
- Hamburger buns: I just love brioche hamburger buns, but you can use your favourite variety.
How To Make It
Here is an overview of how to make these Mediterranean ground chicken burgers (full details are in the recipe card below):
- Grab a large bowl and mix all of the chicken burger ingredients together (aside from the olive oil and hamburger buns, of course).
- Divide the ground chicken mixture into four patties. Make a little indentation in the centre of each patty (this helps them to stay a nice shape as they cook).
- Now cook the chicken burgers (I like to cook them in batches of two, but you can cook four of them at a time if you can fit them in the pan). To cook them, heat some olive oil in a large frying pan, then place the chicken burgers in the skillet (with some space between each one), then cook on both sides until they’re fully cooked through. Repeat to cook the remaining chicken burgers.
- Assemble the chicken patties on hamburger buns with toppings, then devour!
What To Serve With It
Enjoy these Mediterranean ground chicken burgers on their own or with a side. Some of my favourites to enjoy with this burger are:
Serving Variations
Instead of serving the chicken burger patties on hamburger buns, enjoy them as a wrap by crumbling them up and serving on a flour tortilla with veggies and lemon dill yogurt sauce or tzatziki.
Alternatively, serve them between big leaves of lettuce (like Boston lettuce) or crumble them over top of spinach salad or a Mediterranean rice bowl.
Tips
- As you are forming your chicken burger patties, place them onto a plate lined with parchment paper or wax paper (or place a little round of it under the patties) so the patties easily come off the plate (and the paper) when you are ready to cook them.
- Keep your ground chicken cold by keeping it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. The burgers tend to stick together better that way.
- Mix your chicken burger patty ingredients until the ingredients are thoroughly combined but don’t overmix.
- Want to know if the burger patty mixture is seasoned to your liking? Heat a little olive oil in a frying pan, then fry about 1 tablespoon of the mixture until it’s cooked through. Give it a try and if you feel like it needs more dill or salt, for instance, add more.
- Want to make these ahead of time? Prep the chicken burger patties a day ahead, store them in an airtight container (with sheets of wax paper or parchment paper separating them so they don’t stick together), then cook the next day.

Mediterranean Ground Chicken Burgers
Ingredients
Mediterranean Ground Chicken Burgers
- 1 pound ground chicken
- ⅓ cup fresh bread crumbs
- ⅓ cup crumbled feta cheese
- ¼ cup roasted red peppers, chopped small (pat peppers dry of excess moisture before chopping)
- ¼ cup finely chopped red onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided (or using cooking spray)
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted if desired
Topping Ideas
- Sliced cucumber
- Sliced red onion
- Baby spinach
- Sliced tomato
- Lemon Dill Yogurt Sauce
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, bread crumbs, feta cheese, roasted red peppers, red onion, garlic, parsley, dill, lemon juice, oregano, crushed red pepper flakes, salt and black pepper, then mix until everything is combined. Divide the ground chicken mixture into four chicken burger patties. Make a little indentation in the centre of each patty with your thumb or a spoon (this helps them to stay a nice shape as they cook).Tip; Place the chicken patties on a parchment paper or wax paper-lined plate as you are forming them (this makes it easier to remove them from the plate).
- Cook the chicken burgers (I like to cook in batches, 2 at a time): Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Place the chicken burgers in the frying pan (with some space between each one) and cook for 5 minutes on each side or until they're fully cooked through (the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit in the centre of the burgers when checked with an instant-read meat thermometer). Repeat to cook remaining two chicken burgers.Tip: If your frying pan allows it (you can nicely fit 4 burgers in the pan with space around each one), you can fry 4 burgers at a time (use the full 2 tablespoons of olive oil at one time if doing this). Otherwise, fry the burgers in batches (2 at a time).
- Serve the chicken burgers on hamburger buns with lemon dill yogurt sauce (or tzatziki) and your favourite toppings. Enjoy!
Notes
- Want to make these ahead of time? Prep the chicken burger patties a day ahead, store them in an airtight container (with sheets of wax paper or parchment paper separating them so they don’t stick together), then cook the next day.
- If you are cooking 2 burgers at a time, total cook time is about 20 minutes (10 minutes per batch). If you are cooking 4 burgers at a time, total cook time is about 10 minutes. The main thing is that the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit in the centre of the burgers when checked with an instant-read meat thermometer.
