Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
This Pumpkin Pie Smoothie is pumpkin pie in drinkable form. Pure pumpkin puree is combined with banana to create a silky smooth texture and then classic Fall flavours of cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup are added to really amp up the flavour. This is made in about 5 minutes and, surprisingly, not loaded with sugar!
Hey everyone! How was your weekend? Have any good eats? Tell me all about it! This past weekend something unusual happened to me…I had a minor allergic reaction! So, it was Friday night and hubby and I had just finished a late dinner (we typically eat later on the weekend), we were sitting back watching tv, having a glass of vino and a cookie (’cause that’s how we roll- wine and cookies, lol🍷🍪<——and, side note, I have had that particular cookie before. Anywho, out of nowhere, my chest started to get red and super super itchy. Hubby said, ‘I bet it’s the wine.’ WHAT?!?!?! My world stopped. Everything went in slow motion, like The Matrix. After I awoke from fainting (#neverreallyfainted<—being dramatic 😉 ), I slowly turned my head towards him and I have never been as serious in my entire life….’shut your mouth.’ No, it couldn’t be. It probably was the cookie, right? How dare he say such a thing 😳? Ok, ok, in classic Dawn style I may be
a tad very dramatic here, but can you feel where I’m coming from? I’m like freakin’ Gollum in ‘Lord of the Ring‘….wine, ‘the precious.’ Fast forward and hubby gave me a Benadryl and the itchiness went away👍 I was a-ok after that. I don’t know what happened; maybe it was our dinner? Yes, it was dinner…or dem cookies 😀 Yeah, yeah, that was it😐.
Now, I have that off my chest (quite literally), here goes what you came here for! Ok, first Fall recipe of the season! Who’s excited?! I know I am! All the pumpkin! All the maple syrup! All the cinnamon infused drinks, maple syrup drizzled cakes and cookies for me! Ok, ok, you can probably tell I LOVE fall. Favourite season hands down. So, anyway, I made a delicious pumpkin dessert and opened up one of those huge cans of pumpkin puree. I had some leftover and wanted to use it ASAP. I didn’t want to leave that stuff in the fridge until it grew legs and left, know what I’m sayin’? Being a fan of smoothies (ok, who isn’t, right?) I thought how could I convert this puree into smoothie form. Then, I started thinking what flavours go with pumpkin. Duh. Classic combos of cinnamon and nutmeg. Now, I ‘m thinking pumpkin pie. YAS! Winner winner smoothie dinner…or, er, somethin’ like that.
The funny thing is that pumpkin puree in and of itself doesn’t have a lot of strong flavours. It does have a lovely silky, creamy texture, though and when you mix cinnamon and nutmeg with it, now you’re onto something. This Pumpkin Pie Smoothie tastes like a treat, a drinkable dessert if you will, but it is seriously not at all that bad. There’s no refined sugar and it’s relatively low fat. What?! You say. I know, I know. I’m not playing tricks on you. I wouldn’t do that to you guys. For reals. Must be magic in dat dere pumpkin I tells ya 😉 I added only 2 tbsp. of maple syrup for the two generous smoothies and the sweetness level was just right for hubby and I; I don’t like things to sweet. But, if you do, feel free to add a tablespoon or so extra of maple syrup until you get a sweetness that’s just right for you. There’s banana in here too, but there’s no predominant banana flavour. I used it mainly to help increase the creamy smooth texture of the smoothie.
And you know what, you literally just throw everything in a blender and way to go. Done, son! Can’t get much easier than that, can it?
This Pumpkin Pie Smoothie has got me straight trippin’ you guys. Seriously, though, it’s delicious! I know that you’re gonna love this one as much as I do and one you’ll make again and again. Cheers to the upcoming Fall season🍂!
Until next time, take care and chit chat again soon 🙂
