Monthly Favourites July 2016

Monthly Favourites July 2016

Hey everyone!  Well, here we are again to another monthly favourites & round-up. Any big plans for the upcoming weekend?  I wanna hear all about it (especially if it involves good eats 😉 )  Hubby and I will be having a little staycation next week (fingers crossed for nice weather), so I won’t be having a post and minimal time, if any, on social media.  A girl needs a break every once in a while to recharge, doesn’t she?  But, rest assured, I will be back the following week all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with a delicious recipe for you guys!   Pull up a coffee, get comfy and enjoy, my friends.

RECIPES I’VE POSTED THIS MONTH –

Pineapple & Coconut Ice Pops

Pineapple and Coconut Ice Pops, Frozen Treats

Peach & Chickpea Salad

This Peach and Chickpea Salad takes only 10 minutes to make and is the perfect side for your next Summer bbq! #vegan #glutenfree #lowsodium #lowsugar #cleaneating girlheartfood.com

 Fish-en-Papillote

fish-en-papillote, fish, seafood, halibut, fish in parchment, baked, healthy

Cold Buckwheat Noodle Salad with Peanut Sauce

This Cold Buckwheat Noodle Salad with Peanut Sauce takes about 10 minutes to make, is gluten free and is a delicious weekday lunch - girlheartfood.com

FOOD & FOOD RELATED SHINANIGANS

Ok, you guys, you may have read on one of my blog posts that hubby and I tried Nashville Style Hot Chicken.  The recipe came from Bon Appetit and it was seriously the bomb dot com.  The chicken is breaded, fried and brushed with a spicy cayenne infused oil.  Words can’t describe properly the awesomeness that is this chicken.  I highly recommend trying it if you haven’t already.  You don’t know what’s missing from your life 😛

These are some scrumptious recipes from friends and fellow food bloggers that I’ve been loving this month.  I’m sure you’ll feel the same 🙂

Blackberry-Chipotle Glazed Cedar Plank Salmon from No Spoon Necessary. I think this is such a brilliant idea to combine the sweet and tart blackberry flavour with smoky chipotle.  Such an impressive recipe to share with family and friends (or to  keep all for yourself if you’re a big salmon lover like me).  Dinner perfection!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Brookie Tart from The Beach House Kitchen .  How awesome is this recipe, you guys?  It’s cookie meets brownie and becomes bffs.  Can’t decide on which treat to stuff your piehole with?  Well, you don’t have to with this delicious recipe.  Plus, not to mention, how beautiful it looks!

Unbelievable Peanut Butter Pie from Sally’s Baking Addiction.  If you are a fan of peanut butter, then this one is for you!  This is peanut butter flavour to the max here.  Plus, aside from the crust, it’s no bake!  Score!

TELEVISION SHOWS/MOVIES

Hubby and I finally watched the latest Star Wars movie.  It was just released on Netflix so I got to stay home in the comfort of my leggings, on the couch with some munchies. I was glued to the screen from start to end (and that’s saying somethin’).  Hubby didn’t even really care about watching it and he loved it too!

The Great British Baking Show is back on PBS.  These are home bakers and they are seriously talented, you guys.  It amazes me the creations they come up with.  Every time I watch an episode I’m inspired to bake something.  Highly recommended.  Be prepared to get hungry.  Maybe you should just go ahead already and get a box of donuts or something, ok 😉 ?

MUSIC

Just the other day, hubby had on Austin City Limits on TV and The Black Keys were playing .  What great music.  I particularly love their El Camino album.  It’s alternative, but so easy listening.  We went right away and bought the album.

‘Never be Like You’ featuring Kai by Flume.  This song has some serious beats?  Listen to it here and get yo grove on, my friends.  And have you ever listened to a song and thought to yourself ‘You know, I could do some serious contemporary dancing to this.’  No?  Not for you?  Ok, ok, not me either…..hehehe.  It’s not like I watch ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ or anything<——guilty as charged.

BEAUTY

So, if you haven’t figured it out yet, I also LOVE all kinds of beauty related things.  I have a bunch of facial cleansers and lotions and potions in my bath and totally forgot about this one.  It’s Josie Maran’s Argan Cleansing Oil.  You can find it here.  It’s like angels came down from heaven and kissed your face when you use this.  Ok, maybe a tad dramatic, but seriously, when I started to use it I was wondering what I had been waiting for in trying it out.  And it smells amaze balls.

RANDOM STUFF –

Furry child has discovered a new food that he LOVES.  Our little boy is so funny.  He really enjoys broccoli (yes, broccoli), but recently we gave him some mashed turnip with carrot with his food and he ate it up like it was nobody’s business.  Now, we regularly keep a little container of it in the fridge for him.

Anywho, that’s all folks for this month’s Monthly Favourites July 2016.  Hope you’ve enjoyed & been a bit entertained!  Have an awesome upcoming weekend & lots of relaxing like this little guy….chit chat again soon!

~D

What a fabulous round-up! As you might assume, I’m all over those soba noodles! So funny that your cute little pup likes broccoli! Just yesterday I dropped a large floret on the ground and I was surprised to see that my dogs raced to snatch it up! Of course I think it had more to do the competition between the two rather than them actually liking it 😉
Hope you have a great weekend, Dawn!

Thank-you Kathleen!! Those noodles are pretty awesome. The peanut sauce makes it 🙂 Even if you fur babies were competing over the broccoli, at least they ate it, right 😉 Have a lovely week!

That peach chickpea salad has been calling my name all week – I gotta make it this weekend! I also love Star Wars and The Black Keys. Saw them in concert a few years ago and they were amazing live!
My in-laws are coming this weekend and we’re celebrating (a little early) my little boy’s 3rd birthday. So not much relaxing but lots of fun 🙂
Hope you have such a lovely break – well-deserved! – and a fun staycation next week! XO

So many good things in this post, especially that Peach & Chickpea salad and Chey’s Salmon. I could go on and on about the desserts, but I need them like a hole in the head. Well, maybe one slice! 🙂
I don’t know about the new Star Wars, I was so hyped to see it and when we finally did I just felt… meh! Sometimes I think waiting too long kills it for me, more expectation. Anywhoo…
Enjoy your staycation with the hubs and Furry CHild (he’s so cute!)

Thank you Kevin! One slice of dessert would be ok 😉 Twist ya arm, right? I hear ya, though!
Really? Not a huge fan of the new Star Wars? Maybe we went into it with lower expectations.
We will definitely try to enjoy our staycation! Hopefully the weather will be nice so we can do some things outside. It’s been pretty decent here the last couple of weeks so fingers crossed it’ll stay that way! Have a great weekend 🙂

D, I was seriously in a bit of a bad mood until I saw that you posted your monthly favorites! Instantly cheered me up, I say. 😉
So many fantastic recipes, so little time! You know your super awesome pineapple + coconut pops have everything my mom loves. Like woah. Plus, a shoutout to our girl Chey? Whoop whoop! 😉 Plus, SBA. The Queen of Baking, right? <3
So funny though that you've recommended the Great British Baking Show a few times. I seriously can't watch it bc I get too into it. Like, yelling things, thinking about how I would do that kind of competition… sweating for some contestants. Lol. I just can't. And Flume??? YES. I LOVE Flume!! Did you listen to the album he did with Chet Faker? Bc that was everything to me. Two of fave artists on one album. It was pure magic.
Anyway, I hope you have an awesome weekend, my friend. xo

You really have to get on that Great British Baking Show, like, for reals. You would absolutely love. Speaking of love, Married at First Sight just started again and that’s pretty good too 😉
Wow, didn’t know you loved Flume! I didn’t hear anything other than that song and it is awesome! I can only imagine how awesome the rest of the music is! I’ll have to check that out!
